Pierce Skate and Ski was founded by Walter Pierce in 1936 as a family-owned business called Trading Post’s Skate Exchange at 9th and Marquette in Minneapolis. In 1946, a new building was constructed at 3701 Nicollet Ave South, Minneapolis.
In 1965, John and Barbara Pierce diversified into ski equipment and clothing, changing the name to Pierce Skate & Ski. After a devastating fire in 1974, the shop relocated to 9801 Nicollet Ave, Bloomington. By 1981, Pierce Skate and Ski moved to its current location at 208 West 98th St., Bloomington.
Today, Pierce Skate and Ski is owned and operated by the third generation, Bart and Terri Pierce, with their son Tyler also involved in the family business.
Pierce has been a longtime Ski Challenge sponsor and a supporter of local USSA, high school, and Masters racers. They are a 7-time Midwest Retailer of the Year winner, with an award-winning, knowledgeable staff dedicated to providing customers with the finest equipment, clothing, and service. Their passion for the sports they sell is evident in everything they do.
