Registration for Upcoming Season Now Open

Registration is open for both Captain Deposits and individual members for the 2016-17 season.  Individuals can register for both Preseason and/or Regular Season teams.

New this year, if you get your payment in by October 31, you will receive a FREE Guest race voucher for a one time use whenever you want.  Or you can give it to a friend to try out Ski Challenge.

  • Captain Deposits for Regular Season Due – August 31
  • PRESEASON – Cost per person – $40
  • REGULAR SEASON – Cost per person – $140 ($145 after October 31)
  • REGULAR SEASON Price goes to $145 November 1
  • Everyone needs to fill out one online Waiver prior to each season

Hoigaard’s Paddle Derby

What is it?
Our Paddle Derby is a series of ten races with divisions for recreational paddlers and experienced  racers. Enter just to have a good time or to hone your competitive skills. You can enter as few as one race or as many as ten. Compete in the same division for at least five races and earn points towards championship standings.

 

When?
Races are ten Thursday evenings in 2016:
June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
July 7, 14, 21, 28
August 4

Registration is from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m.
Races start at 6:45 p.m.

Where?
Races start and end just west of Thomas Beach on Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis. (At Upton Av. S. and West Calhoun Blvd., in the southwest corner of Lake Calhoun.) The race course travels from Lake Calhoun to Lake of the Isles and (for skilled paddlers) to Cedar Lake and back, with several buoy turns.

Coming this summer at BUCK HILL

buck-hill-new-logo-2016aBuck Hill is excited to announce the addition of MTB Day Camps and Clinics to this summer’s programing. We are working with Adam Buck and Trail Source, to create five skill specific teaching areas for mountain biking. Mountain Bike Day Camp

Mountain bike camps are designed with an emphasis on achieving safe, injury-free riding through the establishment and continuous refinement of core skills. We start with basic skills and techniques and build on mastering these in order for the children to be safe and enjoy the rides. We teach skill development using fun games, sequential skill mastery and developing the children ’ s risk and hazard perception off road. This is achieved through the development of fundamental and advanced skills which improve the rider’s capacity to overcome trail difficulties and avoid injury. Kids must be strong, able to ride on pavement and dirt, and be comfortable riding 5+ miles! Each camp features special Guest Speakers from our local bike shops as well as Guest Instructors.

Downhill Divas

Taught by women, for women, this encouraging camp is divided into two skills levels; beginner and intermediate. It is designed for riders who need guidance in building confidence and skills. This group is perfect for the first time rider who has never ridden on dirt trail or someone who has maybe only ridden on dirt a few times. Whether you are physically fit (or looking to get there!), adventurous and want to learn more about mountain biking.

High School Hot Laps

Get a Jump on the High School Race Season with summer coaching at Buck Hill.
Tuesday night’s from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM will be open to all High School athletes looking to develop their mountain bike skills. These sessions will be led by trained coaches.
You will learn proper shifting, climb better, descend faster,  Race Smarter, while building your endurance on the challenging single-track at Buck Hill.

Macho Mondays

Get out and RIDE! We will teach you the physical and mental skills on how to ride balanced, efficiently, fast and smooth . We also be teach drills for each skill so you can practice after the camp and master these skills, ending the frustration of not riding to your potential. We have designed our mountain bike skills camps to help you with both the mental and physical sides of mountain biking. Our goal is to help you reach your potential by teaching you the core skills of mountain biking along with the drills to master them Learning and becoming proficient at these skills will allow you to ride in balance and in control making you a more efficient and confident rider.

Mountain Bike Yoga

Learn how Yoga can help you:
• Release tension and increase mobility in the hips, legs, back and shoulders
• Increase awareness of the muscles and body parts needed for biking
• Develop balance and core strength needed for mountain biking

Hoigaard’s 2016 Big Island & Back 10K Paddle

We are excited to announce the 3rd Annual Big Island & Back! 10K Paddle on Sunday, August 14th starting at 10 AM.

Tune up your canoe, kayak or paddleboard and head on over to Excelsior on Sunday, August 14th for a friendly race out around Big Island and back. We start near the swim area at Excelsior Beach Park. Our goal is to get paddlers of all ages and skill levels out on Lake Minnetonka for a great community summer event and raise money for a couple of worthy causes.

Don’t miss the after-party at Excelsior Brewing Company beginning at 11 AM for refreshments from the Suburban Restaurant, music and of course, beer!  Awards and door prizes at 12 noon.  Make a day of it and explore beautiful Excelsior!

Proceeds from the race entry fees will be donated to the ICA Food Shelf program and the Freshwater Society! Thank you for your support!

Championships Weekend

Championships Weekend at Giants Ridge is here!  The weather looks great!  We have now closed preregistration and prepayment.  We are heading up to Giants Ridge on Thursday night in order to get all set up Friday morning.  If you plan on coming and haven’t paid yet, you can pay up there.

SKI CHALLENGE OPEN
There is still room in the Friday Ski Challenge Open race.  Check in at the registration table to get placed on a team.

TEAM RACING
If your team is signed up to race and you haven’t registered or paid, you can still come and race.  Just check in at the registration table and pick up a bib number.  You will need to pay there.

INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
If you haven’t signed up for Individual Championships yet, just check in on Sunday morning and we will get you in!

Wild Mountain “Race to Help Hannah” Cancelled

We are sad to report that we need to cancel our event at Wild Mountain, “Race to Help Hannah”, that was scheduled for Sunday, February 28.  We did not get enough pre-registrations to be able to put on the event within the allotted budget.

If you were planning on attending and would like to participate in an event similar to this one, we will still be having our Saturday “Race to Help Hannah” at Buck Hill

Due to the expected high temps this weekend, we have changed our format and schedule for the day at Buck Hill this Saturday and Wild Mountain this Sunday.  We will have our race in the morning starting at 10:30 am.  Everyone will take two runs in each course for times.  We will take your best times in each course for scoring for the race.  After everyone has completed timed runs, you will be able to run the courses as much as you want until 12:15.  We will have awards at 12:30 pm.

Cost:  $30 – A portion of the proceeds will go toward Hannah’s Fund

SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY – BUCK HILL –  CHANGED

  • 9 am – Check in begins – Whittier Room (next to Tucker’s)
  • 10:30 –   Race Begins – Everyone gets two timed runs in each course – we will take your best time in each for scoring

Crystal Lake will have a lunch “pre-order prior to the start of the race.  They will have your food ready for you when you come in.
